Clara Vale Woods Autumn Equinox 2021 by Helen McNulty

On the last day of the year where the day and night are the same length, the sun is somehow warmer and breathes heavier. The plants on Monday set out big flowers for the day and the mushrooms in the woods exposed trusses that you didn't have to walk a mile to notice, they just sprang out straight away as if they knew the day was magical enough to be seen without permission. Even in this crazy assed year where the whole world went upside down and inside out, the equinox brought it down to its magical simplicity and equilibrium, just for a day anyway.
Now begins the winter.
